We have just added a brand new section to our Website: the NexusDB Depot, which you always find quickly in the community menu on the left.
Introduction
The Depot was created to provide an ever growing repository of examples, extensions and tools for NexusDB users. The best part about it is, that EVERYONE registered on our site can post his/her own small "projects" and share them with others.
Up until now there were numerous places where people made tools and extensions available, for example on their own web page, on our newsgroups or on yahoo groups. This made it extremely difficult to keep an overview of "what is out there". Thus lots of very useful and fantastic contributions never got the attention they deserved, simply because they were not known enough.
With the inclusion of extensive scripting support into NexusDB V3 we think that it is now high time to provide a centralized, organized repository for everyone. We hope that the new NexusDB Depot will be the one-stop place for everyone to search and post add-ons for NexusDB.
Every registered user can also rate each project and give it 1 to 5 stars and comment on the project. This will help not only help users to identify the right project for them but also help the authors to improve their little gem.
So what is a "project" and what should be added?
We define a project for this purpose as anything helpful to other users: simple how-to instructions, small snippets of code, scripts, extenders, tools, ... whatever it is, as long as it's beneficiary to even only one other user, it should go in there.
From a technical point of view every submitted project has a few attributes that have to be set by the submitter. These are: Title, Description, Category, Current Version and Supported Products. Some of these are used for browsing and organizing the list of Depot. A project can optionally have a How to Use field, search engine keywords as well as any number of attached files (zip, pdf, txt, gif, png and a few others).
All projects are fully included into the site search engine and thus are easily findable.
How do I add and maintain my own project?
Creating a project is very easy. First, if you haven't already, you need to register an account on our site. Once you're logged in you will find a Create Content/User Project menu item in the My Nexus menu. This will open a form where you can enter the details of your projects, fill in the details and submit the form. That's it.
The form offers some additional settings like Input Format (choose between HTML and bbCode) and URL path settings (here you can give the page a name which will appear in the URL).
In the My Nexus menu you also find a My Projects item which will show you all your own projects and a My download counter where you can see how often the files of your project have been downloaded.
You can at any time edit or delete your project, by simply going to the project page and pressing the Edit link aside of the project title. We recommend that you increase the version number every time you change something, but it's entirely up to you.
Things to keep in mind
Please note we do not accept any offensive material, copyright breaches or any other misuse of the functionality. We hope that everyone is using it responsibly as a great tool for every NexusDB user.
We will ourselves (NexusDB that is) keep adding small examples, scripts etc but we need your help to make this the place we want it to be. So, if you have any such projects, please add them NOW!
